Denise wasn’t able to join our fitness groups from the outset eight weeks ago. For those who are not familiar with how long-term, non-profit rehabilitation works, there is “work therapy” which helps support the organization’s delivery of services, but also serves to encourage discipline, skills-building and self-esteem (skin-in-the-game, contributing to personal care).
Some of the clients have found it difficult to organize their schedules around a fitness regimen. Denise is one such person. However, in the last three weeks, she not only saw the value through the success of her peers, but she also began to recall how good she felt “back in the old days” when she exercised regularly.
So what has Denise accomplished since joining the program?
- Increased participation from zero to 5 days per week.
- Has discovered a direct link between relief from depression and migraines, and the frequency with which she exercises.
- Starting eating breakfast regularly (she used to skip breakfast).
- Feels more confident and competent in being able to schedule, plan and balance life’s needs.
- CUT HER SMOKING from 2 packs-per-day to 1/2 pack-per-day.
- Now engages in walking on days off from the gym for “active rest”.
My observation is that she is smiling more and exudes a sense of optimism and “can-do” attitude.
Denise states that the fitness program is encouraging a sense of shared purpose and service to one another.
All of our team members come from different starting positions, and will attain different results. We want to highlight those kinds of individual accomplishments for our readers and supporters.
We meet people where they are, encourage them to compare-in, set “Small Wins TM” goals, and settle in for the long-run.
